Hailing from Bradford, Cut Yourself In Half are the latest Heavy Rock outfit to gain a large amount of buzz in a very short space of time. Apparently they are ‘blending melodic vocals with crunching riffs and a concentration on groove’ but I can’t help but wonder if they’re just flogging a dead horse.

Cut Yourself In Half are clearly aiming for a lo-fi 70’s rock sound, yet come off sounding a little badly mixed with the vocal levels jumping around on Say Goodbye To The World, making it not so easy on the ear. Its riffs and drum patterns are simplistic but effective and the vocal melodies have an air of Ozzy to them, yet the latter half of Say Goodbye To The World seems more like a collection of riffs just for the sake of riffing rather than a cohesive piece of naturally flowing music.

Truckloads of reverb and echo are present on the vocals of Psycho Human Being Disaster, added to give a trippy Acid Rock atmosphere but just adding to confusion, in particular to the shouted vocal lines in its chorus. The track comprises of three minutes of sub-standard riffs before its swirl of sounds blend into a headache inducing crescendo.
To be fair, I just find myself with not a lot to say about this release having listened to it in between Antlered Man and Orange Goblin’s latest offerings. It’s ‘alright’ to listen to, but is that really enough with so much competition out there to grab your attention instead?

“Say Goodbye to the World” is released for download on 30/01/2012.
